Why have you developed this only for the iPhone – Androids have been sweeping the floor with the iPhone now for some time and are way ahead in sales.
Hi Maris – thanks for your comment! Couple of reasons for the decision to launch solely with the iPhone, as it happens. First off, it makes sense to build it for one platform at a time rather than trying to do them all in one go. If you find a glitch with one version it may have an effect on the other. Also we only raised enough cash to do one (this is a project-funded, not-for-profit adventure for us)
So why iPhone first, rather than the market leader? Well, it’s because it’s content-heavy. There are restrictions on the size of Android apps so we’d never have been able to do it on such an ambitious scale.
Since then we have been experimenting with reducing file sizes and creating a ‘Lite’ version. But of course, it’s all time and money. The plan is to raise funds over the coming months to do that and add more content to the current app. You (and fellow Androiders) can help by becoming a ‘Friend of the Hackney Podcast’ .
